It seems like at home DNA testing kits have become the new trend to keep up with lately and honestly they’re really not that bad of an idea. I had personally been wanting to buy one, but I was iffy about it and I didn’t think at full price it was really worth the cost.
I started to do some research on the different brands ( AncestryDNA, 23andMe, MyHeritage DNA, etc.) before I made a final decision. I wanted to see what they all had to offer and how accurate their results were from other users/reviews. It’s really up to you on what you’re trying to get out of it. Since I was just focused on my ethnicity, I decided to go with AncestryDNA. From my research, it seemed like this brand had the best reviews and the most accurate results.
So I bought the kit (on sale because full price is still not worth it to me) and followed through with it. In less than a month of sending back the sample, I had already got my results back. Let’s just say I was absolutely SHOCKED with the results and so was my mother LOL!! So here they are:
Now the whole reason I really even did this was to get more in touch with my dad’s side, but it seems like my mom is the one with the interesting background! So interesting, that she bought a kit as well so we can see her results too! (still waiting on hers)
We always knew my dad was Polish and Slovak, so this isn’t new info. We also knew my mom was Moroccan, so “African North” makes sense, but now everything else is just WOW, WHAT!? I always thought I was only Polish & Moroccan and I came to find this shit out! LOL! It’s so crazy how a little bit of spit can determine these results. This is so amazing for someone who is adopted or never met their parents and have all these questions. It’s just mind blowing and fascinating all at once!
So not only am I just Moroccan and Polish, but apparently I’m 17% Middle Eastern. This isn’t a HUGE shock, but even my mother had no idea! I used to get teased in grade school A LOT about being a “terrorist” because of my last name (Talarek), but those uneducated fucks had no idea my father is the caucasian one. WE didn’t even know there was any Middle Eastern in me, but we know now and I’m going to rock that shit. Fuck those kids!
The last two (European South & Iberian Peninsula) were the biggest shocks! Apparently I have some Italian and/or Greek in me! Like what?! My mom thinks this is from her grandpa, but I guess we’ll find that out once she gets her results! I also have some Spaniard in me! My mom is totally claiming this one as well since Morocco and Spain are very close to each other!
Here are the remaining low confidence regions that make up the last 14% of me:
If you’re curious about your background, I would definitely recommend this. It was really interesting and it even gives you family members you may be related to that took the test. It’s a little pricy, but it was well worth it!
Curious to know if anyone else had positive results using Ancestry or any other brand? Please let me know!
