Maintaining a daily routine for washing your face is VERY important. We don’t realize how much dirt gets insides our pours causing irritation, redness, and our favorite, BREAKOUTS. It might be impossible for some to not have a minor break out here & there, but you can definitely minimize your chances if you take care of your skin! It will reward you back!
First things first, you need a good face mask that will help exfoliate your skin. I’ve used a handful of different products to test out what works best for me. I would advise that you spend a little extra on your face mask. The good ones are a bit pricey, but they are worth every dollar. The two I would recommend are Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor Exfoliating Clay Mask & Dermalogica’s Sebum Clearing Masque.
Philosophy’s mask dries very stiff on your face, but works really well when you are rinsing it off. Massaging deeply when applying & again when removing with warm water helps leaving your skin SUPER soft! I absolutely love this feeling right after. This is the best face mask I’ve used as far as softness. 9/10
As for Dermalogica’s, this is a good face mask to help prevent future break outs and absorb excess oil. I use this mask when I’m looking for a cool, refreshing feeling. It doesn’t dry on your face like Philosophy’s, so your face isn’t “stuck.” My skin is also very oily, so I like using this mask to unplug my pours in general and help eliminate the extra oil. This is the most refreshing face mask I’ve used. 8.5/10
After washing your face, it’s crucial to have a good moisturizer to keep your face hydrated. Again, because I have oily skin, I use a moisturizer that favors this. My favorite is Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. I’ve been using this product for a few years now and it has not let me down once! It’s helped hydrate my skin all year round, especially it the colder months! I use this every morning & night & sometimes more depending on the season we’re in. 10/10
Besides face masks & moisturizers, there’s two other products I use regularly. The first one is Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips. I got a free sample from a Cosmo magazine and I loved it right away! They remove all the blackheads and build up in your pours. I saw the results after just one use and they also don’t hurt as bad to remove the strip like some of their competitors. Even though these may not be the top brand, they give excellent results and are very affordable. The second product is Purederm Dark Circle Reducer Eye Patches. I first saw these from a friend of mine and decided to give them a try after she said she saw results! They give off a cool, refreshed feeling like the face mask I mentioned earlier. You can even wear these overnight to maximize results. I don’t necessarily use these every week because I don’t have bad circles under my eyes, but I have noticed how they brighten the skin and eliminate the dark shadows. These are also very affordable.
Everyone tends to have different experiences with beauty & skin care products, so it’s important you find what works best for you. It took a while to find what works for me, but my face has cleared tremendously since I stopped using Proactiv and changed my acne treatment. I notice a huge difference by using these products with my treatment and I hope they work well for you too!
I need to get that hydrating gel! My face is oily, too but it also gets dried out because I’m always trying to dry out the zits…lol
