It’s been close to two months since we’ve been stuck in our homes and not able to see anyone. As state restrictions start to ease, some of us are still working from home or choose to stay home until things get better. Whatever your reason may be, many people are finding it hard to stay motivated during this difficult time.
Our daily routines have come to an end. Plans that were made for the summer are canceled. Just hanging out with our friends is now more complicated as we want to see them, but still be safe and social distance.
Even though this is challenging time in our lives, we must remember we’re all going through this together. You aren’t alone and most people are feeling the same way you do. That’s why it’s important to check-in on your loved ones and try to remain as positive as you can. The best way to do so is to stay motivated!
Here are some ideas:
- Teach yourself a new skill or brush up on an existing one – It’s never too late to teach yourself something new (although it is tougher the older we get). With all this downtime, why not learn something that can help with your career? A skill that you can add to your resume? Or it can even be something in your personal life, like learning how to draw.
- Make a vision board – Vision boards are very helpful because they make you see your goals everyday. The purpose of making one is to help you stay motivated and reach your dreams. It’s important to keep it out and somewhere visible so you can be constantly reminded. I personally have one and can vouch that it’s beneficial!
- Read a book – What’s better than getting wrapped up in a new book and having something to look forward to? The best part is you can take your book anywhere (like your backyard or somewhere far from others) and have a new view while you’re reading. It’s better than being inside and watching the same Netflix series over and over.
- Write everyday – Writing is a stress reliever and can help if you do it in the correct way. The point is to write your feelings down and get all the negative thoughts out. If you journal everyday, it can also help reduce anxiety. It’s like talking to someone, but that someone is you and only YOU will read what you wrote. Writing is a powerful outlet and you would be surprised how good it feels to reread some of your old thoughts.
- Do things that you never have time for anymore – Before all this madness, many of us had hobbies that we loved, but couldn’t find the time for them. Well, isn’t this the perfect time to pick back up? Maybe even find a way to incorporate it back into your everyday lifestyle when things get back to normal?
- Make future plans – Life is eventually going to get back to some kind of normal one day and we will continue on with our lives. Why not make future plans? I’m not saying buy a round trip to Norway or spend a bunch of money right now, but having something to look forward to is one of the most motivating things in life. It doesn’t have to be huge or expensive, but making some sort of plans will help keep you excited about the future and life after COVID-19.
- Make a savings plan – This pandemic blindsided most of us and many were not ready financially. Having a savings plan is essential and unfortunately, this should be a learning experience. Money is a motivator alone and you should always have some kind of plan when it comes to saving your money.
- Find yourself – All this time we have spent alone in the house, I can’t think of a better time to work on yourself. Self-improvement never ends and the point of life is to live as the best version of yourself. (You can read more about self- improvement here- Investing In Yourself. [Mind, Body, & Spirit])
I hope this list finds you well.
Even though all of this really does suck, if you wake up healthy, be grateful.

These are really good ideas. Think I might try the vision board idea. Definitely been nice to get back into reading though!
Hope you’re keeping well.
James.

These are some really great tips. Its been a really tough couple of months for all of us, but there are also some good things we can take from it.
I’ve read more in 2 months than I have in years, and I’ve started learning German (and picked back up with many more hobbies I’ve never had time for).
I hope you’re doing well and staying safe!

This is a great post. I work in an essential organization so technically I have had to work this whole Time, but because of my chronic illness I requested to work from home. I go back to work onsite next week, but I had a great 2 months working from home, just rolling out of bed, eating what I needed to out of the fridge, hanging out with my husband and dogs…and because I didn’t have to drive anywhere I could squeeze in exercise and yoga!

Such lovely ideas. I have certainly struggled with motivation at times. But I am loving slowing down a little. I have read 4 books which is unheard of for me and we have almost completed all the house decorating we’ve had no time for.
It is such a valuable reset time that (hopefully) we will never have again but it is so important that we look after ourselves.
Thanks for sharing x

Reading books and writing are two things I’ve found to help keep me motivated. My motivation was low today but since I started a new blog post for my blog, I’ve found I feel more motivated. I’ve also been doing a few short courses to learn about new things and build up on things I already know. It’s all really helped.
